Kitemill is proud to announce its role as an industry partner in AWETRAIN, a European research and training network focused on making Airborne Wind Energy (AWE) a central tool for renewable energy. Supported by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Networks and led by DTU (Technical University of Denmark), AWETRAIN brings together leading academic institutions like Politecnico di Milano and TU Delft. The network will train twelve doctoral candidates to meet the technical, societal, and market demands of AWE. This marks Kitemill's fifth EU-funded project and highlights the EU's commitment to AWE as a scalable, cost-effective solution for the energy system of the future.

Kitemill's Role in AWETRAIN

Device Reliability and Control: Supporting research on fault-tolerant designs and robust control mechanisms essential for system reliability and commercial scalability.

Scaling and Grid Integration: Leveraging advanced testing facilities in Norway to generate valuable data for developing grid-compatible, scalable AWE solutions for large-scale deployment.

Market and Social Integration: Collaborating with AWETRAIN partners on market research and public outreach to promote broader acceptance and adoption of AWE in Europe.

Kitemill’s efforts in these areas are supported by 300,000 euros in EU funding.

Developing Expertise for the Renewable Energy Leaders of Tomorrow

AWETRAIN’s doctoral training program will equip future leaders in renewable energy with interdisciplinary skills in technical innovation, societal impact, and industry collaboration. Through placements with Kitemill and other industry partners, candidates will gain practical experience with real-world challenges and opportunities in implementing renewable technology, preparing them to be pioneers in the green transition.

Kitemill’s involvement in AWETRAIN reflects our commitment to advancing AWE and building a resilient, sustainable energy future for Europe.
